What We Believe
I believe what I believe is what makes me who I am
I did not make it, no, it is making me
It is the very Truth of God, not the invention of any man
- Rich Mullins, Creed
The most important thing about any local church is what it believes. Historically, churches have used statements of faith to summarize biblical teaching and clearly identify what they believe. Woodmont Baptist Church has adopted a modified version of the 1853 New Hampshire Confession of Faith. This Statement reveals our church to be a historically Christian, evangelical church rooted in the Baptist tradition. Our full Statement of Faith is linked at the bottom of this page.
Some of our key beliefs are listed below:
1. The Gospel
The gospel is the good news of who God is and what he’s done, what he's doing, and what he will do. It is the good news that the reign of God and his kingdom are at hand through the person, work, and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 1:14-15). He is the solution to all of the disastrous effects of sin in our hearts and in the world (Gal. 2:14).
2. The Bible
The Bible is God’s Word. It is his gracious and authoritative self-revelation to us (2 Tim. 3:16-17). The Holy Spirit works through God’s Word in the Scriptures through preaching, teaching, and discipleship. We want everything we do as a church to be informed by God’s Holy Word. We gather for worship that is Word-centered. We sing songs that reflect the truths of God’s Word. We are discipled through studying and meditating on God’s Word.
3. The Great Commandments
Jesus told us (Matt. 22:36-40) that the most important demands of God’s law are to love God with all that we are (Deut. 6:4-5) and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Lev. 19:20). We seek to obey these commands through God-centered worship and by seeking to meet our neighbors’ needs in the name of Jesus.
4. The Great Commission
Jesus also told us that his followers are responsible for taking the gospel to the ends of the earth (Matt. 28:18-20). We are a congregation of senders and goers, extending the Kingdom to every nation, tribe, and tongue (Rev. 14:6). We seek to share God’s love for lost and searching people all over the world, and then to play our part in making disciples of all nations. We freely cooperate with other Bible-believing churches as well as local and national associations to see this mission fulfilled in our communities, our nation, and our world.
