This week our nation has been stunned by the horrific news of the severe earthquake in Haiti.  The loss of life is staggering and the needs of those who survived continue to grow by the hour.  Watching the images and hearing the stories is heartbreaking.  Many have asked, “How can we help?”  The long-term answer is yet to be determined.  Will there be opportunity to assemble a team?  Will there be construction teams needed?  Medical teams?  We will continue to monitor all the information available to us to make those determinations.  The short-term answer is easier… two things are needed… prayers and donations.  As a church we will have opportunities to pray fervently, consistently, and carefully for the needs.  As an individual, you are encouraged to give financially.  At this point, it seems best to channel all gifts directly through the various relief organizations that are already on-site. There are two organizations that I would suggest at this time.  The first is called, “Baptist Global Relief.”  This organization is a part of the work of the International Mission Board of Southern Baptists.  Baptists have an incredible network of disaster relief and teams are already working in Haiti.  You may find them on-line at www.GOBGR.org and give through the website.  I would also suggest the American Red Cross at www.Americanredcross.org.  As always, the Red Cross organization is well-equipped to offer aid in a variety of very needed ways.

We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and will update our response accordingly.
